The junior championship is arguably the best junior championship in the UK, catering for drivers aged between 14 years old and 16 (when the season starts). Supporting the British Touring Car Championship, drivers get to showcase their talents live on ITV4.
Driving the iconic G40 race car with a power limit of 100BHP from a 1.8L Zetec engine, weighing a mere 830kg and with a top speed of 120mph, it gives the drivers the chance learn and develop their skills whether they have graduated from karting or complete newcomers.
Due to the very nature of the Ginetta juniors being a single-make championship, the racing can, at times, be very close. The only differences in the cars are the set-up and driving style/talent of its driver. Tight technical regulations ensure parity between cars through pre event and post qualifying/race scrutineering checks. Spectators get to see exciting races, to rival the BTCC races it supports.
The championship consists of 26 races over 9 weekends between March and October and includes a rookie class for 1st year drivers. Ginetta provide complimentary hospitality at all race events, as well as parts and technical support which means teams do not have to buy and transport a truck-load of spares to each race and ensures better chance of repairing the car for the next session should the need arise.
As well as the live ITV4 coverage on race weekends, coverage of the races are also shown on Motorsport UK the week following races, meaning if sponsors miss the action on the Sunday, there is the chance to watch it again.
